I always liked ones in a faster sink version that would fall with the tail slightly down (maybe 5 degrees or so). I think they fall nicely this way. If they fell quickly perfectly level they might wiggle a little on the fall. Of course, that could be useful too. Kind of like those fresh water worms that wobble back and forth as they sink.

Here's an anaogy. Look at an old piling in a river or heavy current. One that's not attached to anything but the bottom. When the water really starts to move around it the piling will sway back and forth. It does that because a cylinder is a tough shape in a flow. Creates vorticies on one side that push it back the other way and so on... Uneven pressure distributions (forces) on either side. Very unstable. It's kind of like a flag in the wind.
