John: I haven't "fished" these yet, only did some wet testing.Yes I thru wire everything. The top water is for the shallow waters and yes I'm counting on some bigger fish. I learned last year with huge pencils (that you are sure to recognize) and a few other pieces of timber, that big lures catch big fish. The bottom dragger is for the deeper waters. Something I heard In Newport about stripers fondness for the bottom and while in shallow water the fish will come up a reasonable distance to a lure, but in deeper waters you have to present it to them thus the bottom dragger. Hope to slide it over the top of a few reefs and other familiar obstructions.
