Subject: Big Inlet rips

Today I continued by quest to learn the Moriches Inlet. It was drizzling and the night before it rained about 2 inches. Wind was out of the NE 15-20 the inlet goes from NE to SW (ocean side). I worked only the east side. There is a very powerful rip on the inside corner and continues for about 75 feet. There is a steep drop from the edge of the inlet from 6 feet to 30 feet and then it rise to the mouth which is about 8-10 feet deep and dangerous in a skiff. I would turn around in 13 feet. I was casting a 12-inch bunker fly that sort of looks like a Dame Mary. I'm casting 28-feet of T-14 on a floating running line about 60' to the base of the rocks and 45 degrees upstream. In about 30 seconds the line would float by me and then be in front all the while passing through various current lines. My guess is I was down about 20 feet. I watched a fellow live line a 10-inch bunker for one 20# striper in he same water. I doubt he was getting to the bottom with the bunker. I want to know what my fly looks like in this water and is this the wrong place for this fly. If it isn't is it a craps shoot in these conditions?
