Try a bunch of lines and see which one cast the whole line or pretty near with one backcast.

NO double haul. That is how to find out what line loads the rod so it will cast without being a gymnast.

It is self explanatory.

The rod tells you which line works best.
Not a salesman or a paid casting instructor.
One wants to sell and the other wants to sell.

You want to cast.
That is a whole different ball game.
Start with a twelve an then an 11 an then a 10.
You can cast a three weight with that rod if you get up enough line speed with endless false casting to bend the rod.

HIgh speed light bullet or low speed heavy bullet.
Less wear and tear with the heavy bullet.

A floating line is for control of your presentation. A sinking line can only be cast and retrieved and that is a low percentage single tactic for stripers unless the fish are aggressive.

The floating line gives you the advantage of many presentations and depth control of your fly. You can use split shots and be sure where you fly is rather than hoping.

There are some tables on this board that give the distances that one has to cast upstream to get a fly down to fish-able depths with different line sink rates. They are enlightening to people who believe the marketing labels on the fly lines.

One backcast with just the head out.
