You're not blackballed!!
When I started to experiment with saltwater flyfishing, I used an intermediate line and thought it was great. After some experimentation with lines weights and types I found that I could control my flies much more effectively with a floating line (generally a Rio 10 Floating on a 6 weight rod. One day, I went back to the 9 weight intermediate on my 9 weight rod and was amazed how how stiff the rod felt and how much work it was to cast that line. I also noticed how much more difficult it was to mend and control the fly presentation.
It is a trial and error process. Find out what works for you. Fishing is supposed to be fun not a formula designed by someone else.
Good luck!
Rick
