I'm not positive because I haven't heard of that but I don't think it's the same. Furled leaders are used to turn your fly over when casting. This is necessary to make a delicate presentation. It's the weight of the fly line and the unfurling of the leader and tippet that allows you to present the fly gently. Casting with a spinning rod is very different. It's the weight of the lure that pulls the line off the reel. Therefore a furled leader is of no use.
