Good thinking about that mono.. A long gernman mono leader about fifty pound, same diameter as big game maybe thinner long enough to reach the spool will cut down on lost plugs with all your backlashes. USe heavy braid and make a good connection. My dad taught me that when I was a tyke. That is what people did back then when they used curryhunk linen which did not stretch either.

That was for conventional we did not use spinning reels then.

It still works.

The plug bounces back. You can really lean. The rod should have a bit of give too.
