That is a tangent that distracts from what we are talking about. Even if there is only one big fish in the canal and you hook it; How are you going to land it? I think that is what you were talking about getting those big fish landed and not lost on the lip.
The good old days are always better than the good old days at present.
How did he land fish in the good old days? That is he question that he can answer.
If he is a real angler you will be able to tell from his answer if he knows how to or not.
IF he says well there were so many back then that it didn't matter; then you know that he is an old bullshitter. He is just an old parking lot guy who didn't die yet. But he knows who did catch. Ask about that.
IF he tells you something useful then he knows what he knows and you can thank him.
Yesterday is gone, experience today.
IF he can tell you how to get those fish up over the lip then you he something you can use today.
I would hunt down that answer or those answers and be a detective about it. Most folks do not know but they pretend to know.
Some know and won't share. The only ones who do know are the ones who produce big fish.
Ask them two thousand times if you have to. Eventually they will tell you something and the rest will follow from that.
I have to go film now. Talk to you later. I bet there are fish in the canal right now feeding on Squid close to the shore.
