I totally understand and I do the same myself. I just don't publish my un-tested experiments as if they were tested conclusions that others can trust.
You do have to flesh things out yourself. There are many (good enough) stops along the way. Just say that they are stops and not finished products and others will be served and not deceived.

By the way putting the big fly on the head spot will cause you some giant messes. The lighter flies will flip and tangle back on the first fly like the tail of a kite falling out of the air. The lighter the leader the worse the mess. :-)
