I lost several nice fish at Castle Rock last summer when they got down in to the rocks and chaffed thru the leader. At the last Fly Rod Tune Up Session, Ken showed me how to double up the leader, so that you have two strands of mono tied to your snap and then how to do the same with the first several feet of your running line.
I'm happy to report that last week, when I got into a nice bass, the results were different! Whne I finally landed the "Little Critter", one of the two sections of mono had been chaffed thru. (I had felt the rubbing, etc. and had been praying...) But the second one had held! The bass was about 5 1/2 hands long. My hand spread in about 9 inches long.
So, double up on your leaders guys and gals! You'll catch more fish!
