IT is an old trick that is very useful.
The first time you catch a fish and one of the strands is broken - and - the fish is big. You know the worth of the method of rigging.
Single strand gives you one link no matter how heavy it is, double gives you two. A piece of mono is easily abraded or cut no matter how heavy.
Two pieces give you the edge. It works.
Also handling a fish is easier up close because you have twice the strength in your terminal end.
It is one of those old timer tested and true ways of rigging that evolved from practicality in the field.
