I have done it while fishing for palegics to give a little shock absorption. I'll give it a try next time I fish a rocky area - which I don't really favor and don't do that often. I would actually catch a smaller fish on a sandy beach than a bigger fish from the rocks. That said when they are there and are really big I somehow overcome the aversion.
