You can rig anyway you prefer. This way works and always has. It is a matter of choice not right or wrong. It is a practicl approach and it does take a little more effort. I do it on a fly rod when I am fishing for a larger fish on purpose. That single strand has been rubbed through too many times on large fish for me to ignore.
