This question is for a light spinning setup fishing light jigs in heavy current, not a fly line.
I do usually use a 30lb hard mono tippet for my fly gear.
I like to fish in rocky places with lots of sharp areas that can slice through tippet, also I like how little energy it loses to turn over multiple flies, and I like the way the team of flies behave in the water with the thicker diameter, good for surface drifts.
