Subject: Bluegill imitation for bass |
|
|
When I was young, I remember catching some bluegill minnows (1"-2") and then hooking them through the back to use as bait for bass. These seemed to work much better than shiners (but, I was told that it was illegal to use a game fish (bluegill) as bait - ahhh, youth...)
I'm looking to tie some flies that imitate bluegill.
I was thinking a fly like Ray's Fly might work (bluegill are dark with bars at the top (peacock herl?), light in middle (white & olive bucktail?) with a bit of red under their 'chin' (yellow bucktail?)).
Any ideas, or good fly recipes? I'd also appreciate any hints on how to fish them...
thanks,
-andrew
