I am a newbie, so bear with me on this...
I was fishing a pond in Abington, MA and trying to figure out what fly to use so early in the season. I tried some hare's ear nymphs, but had no success (probably technique and location and ability...). I managed to catch a small pike on a 'gimp' and I did see some tiny (<1/4") black 'bugs' (midges?) but I also saw a couple of solid black mayflies, about 1-1/4" long.
Any ideas about 'matching the hatch' here? To be honest, I am struggling with almost all aspects of fly fishing, but I do love it!
Thanks,
-andy
