Just a thought John. I used to do an awful lot of smallmouth fishing in N.H. And although perch, especially young of the year perch, were always on the menu, I did much better with golden shiner imitations. My best pond had smelt, suckers, sunfish, tons of crayfish and a wealth of perch. Only two spots held golden shiners. Yet the golden shiner color schemes outfished everything else by far. Day or night. Maybe they're the pogie of the freshwater set.
