I've found the different brands better than others. Up to 20lb test I would swear by fireline, 30-50lb I use Suffix and on one rig I use power pro 65 very successfully. I've got a sour tase in my mouth from power pro in general though. the stuff is very soft, thin and limp. In my opinion a little stiffness and line memory is good for avoiding knots, tangles, etc. I've used Suffix this season and am very happy with it. The only problem I have with it is avaliability and cost.

Wind knots with braid tend to have a lot to do with your own particular style of casting and the speed of a certain rod. I general you can do a couple of things to try to avoid the problems though.

After a cast always lay the line back on the spool by hand and manually close the bail. A loop over the top of the spool in the dark is probably the most common problem people run into.

Another thing to do is to make sure the line is reeled back on the spool with as much tension as possible. Sometimes this is difficult when fishing a spook or something else that tends to throw occational slack into your line during a retrieve but do your best.

And lastly smooth out the cast. A snapcast on any rod other than a very fast one will result in big problems most of the time. Cast things the same way you would a big awkward piece of wood...like a smooth long golf swing. Let the rod do the work. You'll get more distance anyway.

Hope this helps
