I double and twist the line then I tie that to one end of the swivel swivel then I tie in a twisted leader to the other end of the swivel and the other end to a snap. Over all the length is about 7 to eight feet long. Five feet of that is double line and 2 1/2 feet is double leader. Doubling and twisting is simple just spin one strand and the other will twist also. Even out the two strands by stroking them until they are even in tension. It looks like a twisted rope when finished. If you do not do this then the plug will foul in the loose double leader and cause problems the same is true with the double line. Twisting it stabilizes it. I do not get fancy with my knots ( I do not use a bimini)I just use a five turn surgeon's knot and a uni knot for the swivel and the snap. Four or five turns . Slide it down loose so it passes over the doubled leader easily and then tighten it when it butts up to the metal of the swivel and the snap. Three uni knots and one surgeon's knot for the double line. IT is easy to do this and it gives you confidence. Change the knots often and you will not have terminal problems. The swivel does help a great deal with twists inteh line but use you hand to close the bail and for God's sake do not use the click on your reel as it is one thing that drives old timers crazy having to listen to someone reeling in with that noisy clicking wrecking the natural sounds of the shoreline. I have left fish because of that irritating noise.
Most good reels have a silent anti-reverse and for good reason.
That is another thing I find irritating about the fall. Dudes all geared up to fish making cat calls and noisy as a car wreck on T.V. with no awareness of the grace that being silently present to nature gives to fishing.
There is a lot more to fishing than being noisy about it. Being silent makes you more present to what is happening around you. It will make you a better fisherman.
