This is from an email I received two days ago:
"**** ***** has been beating up the fish out in Montauk on the fly, he had 53 on Thurs."
For you guys who count fish, do you use a pad and pencil to keep track like a prisoner marking off the days on his cell wall, or one of those automatic hand clickers that umpires use to keep track of balls and stikes and outs, or do you bring along one of those racks that are suspended over pool tables to keep track of how balls have been sunk? What is the method? Really, I cannot remember after 4 or 5 fish. The most fish I ever caught in a two hour period was during a wild July hickory shad run from my anchored kayak with a 5 wt. I know I caught a fish on every cast and sometimes 2 with a dropper. I soon stopped that because two crazily wiggling shad are too much to handle in the cramped quarters of a kayak. But I have no idea how many I caught—more than 10 and less than 100. How's that? Do I really have to narrow it down to a particular number? Is there a form I have to fill out somewhere? If so, where do I get the form?
