I was equally amazed at one guy's need to feel successfull and
recognized for his angling prowess. He had a set of beads on strings
pinned to his super duper fly vest that was a sort of abacus. As I was
walking to the river, I goofed and asked how his morning had been.
He grabbed his beads, studied them for a moment, and told me that he
had caught two hundred and some odd shad. He then took the
opportunity to show me the only fly the fish were taking that morning,
a gummy legged shrimp jig, and told me that I simply had to have one
if i was going to catch any fish. I showed him my small GP on a
dropper, and he sneered "it's a pretty fly, but it's not what they're
keying on-give it a try I guess" I just smiled, gave an obligatory nod,
and walked away. --A fish abacus! I would imagine that for the
holidays he is asking for a new fangled fish clicker! Happy holidays
