Ah problem with e communication.I admire Eds for his determination, the keys can be an intimidating place for DYO fishing.Every time I go I try to scout up places where I can fish on my own on foot and will probably start to do some dyo fishing on my next trip. I mentioned seeing alot of fish in snotty weather as an ecouragement to him because two differnt guides in two different sections of the keys both experienced went immediatley to deep water and tied the boat off a finger of a bar of a flat. The tarpon were in the deeper water and came across the edge of the channel where we got to see some in bad conditions.Site fishing is in down there so you dont cast until you see fish but If I was fishing there everyday Id throw to spots where I thought fish would be just like we do here.I dont know how long you could do that with a 12 weight so I would have to make my trips brief and to the point..Jack Gartside had an article on fishing the keys where he said he pretty much fished for bonefish like he does for stripers, he fished the edges of bars and channels etc, frequently not by site..The book I mentioned by Ben taylor is a good one and Id recommenend it for anyone fishing the Keys on their own.His Copper bonefish fly is heavily weighted with lead wire to get it down in deep water.
