I fished for a few hours on Saturday afternoon. I wanted to fly fish but it was too windy. BEing a holiday weeknd the boat traffic was a bit heavy also. Eeven back in my little shallow cove of few kayakers that had obviously never kayaked got a little close. ABout 2 hours into the afternoon rising tide (3:00pm ish) I saw a large plume of mud that looked like a big ray mud. a bonnet head shark came shooting out of the mud at one point. I almost gave up on it but decided to watch another minute. sure enough a school of 15 or so bones comes out of the mud and starts cruising along. my crab landed a few feet in front of the school and was inhaled as it fluttered to the bottom. I got the fish to the boat but he came off as I was reaching down to grab him.
I saw one large snook hanging out in a pot hole but lost sight of him when the sun disappeared behind a cloud. a few blind casts produced nothing but a nervous boil. I went in shortly after that.
A friend and I tried looking for some big laid up Tarpon in Florida Bay on some fairly remote banks on Sunday but we didnt find any. Weather was crappy and we went in.
hope to hit the mother of all estuarys in the next week or so, eds
