Borrow q copy of striper moon from a friend or the library and read it.

IT is a small book but I think you may get your answers there.

Also go up three sizes on your line and you will not have problems with the wind and - large flatwings cast like a tern diving. No wind resistance or weight and they actually do catch fish consistantly well because they are based on function in the water not on sales and marketing.

Mostpeople have stopped fly fishing becasue they have been sold a bill of false marketing of goods and casting and flies and lines and cannot catch fish well with those make believe ideas.
That is because the modern ideas rose up out of the marketing and product development part of the fly fishing industry which is peoplesed with twenty somethings right out of school not from real old time fly fishermen.
