Subject: locating "richer" flyfishing spots on Long Island's sound coast...

I am really starting to get more and more interested in “getting back into” flyfishing. I love plug fishing but I am longing for a more in-tuned approach to fishing. As much as I love to cast the most beautifully turned & painted plug I can get my hands on there is something magical at catching a bass on a fly that was made to look like and behave almost exactly how a baitfish, worm, shrimp etc. is supposed to appear in the water.

With that said I implore your help! I know that most of the writings I have seen about your fishing experiences is about fishing the literally thousands of small creeks, tidal pools, estuaries, rivers and grasslines that dot the entire Connecticut and Rhode Island shore. Unfortunately, such varied coastline does not exist on the north shore of Long Island. There are very few such features there. Most of the coastline is simply long stretches of sandy beach, becoming more pebbly as one move east and becoming more rocky as you approach the North Forks. There are but a handful of tide pools and rivers & creeks to fish from. Hence, we don’t get the vast hatches and blooms that I see written about.
Ken, I don’t know how well you know Long Island’s north shore but can you give me a few pointers as to what areas I should concentrate on?

Thanks
John
