Subject: Summer surf flyfishing opportunities

Hello all,

Now that I am "back in the game" I would like to kindly and of course respectfully ask for some "summer advice":

As you probably all know, the age-old adage is that most surfcasters sort of hang it up in July and the early part of August. The few guys that are still flailing the warm surfline are the late-night bunker chunkers who, admittedly, do connect but it's rarely not done well unless you are prepared to camp out all night and have an ample supply of bunker (i.e., "pogies" for the New Englanders - I'm from Long Island where we call them "bunker").

How is it with the flyrod? Does the surf "die" for us too? Any advice on this? I would think a backbay area on the outgoing at dawn would give me the best shot as the water has been allowed to cool overnight. Perhaps some tiny spearing flies, maybe even worm imitations? As you can tell I'm not that experienced at this having taken a long hiatus from flyfishing to do regular plugging for many years...

Thanks
John
