Brett, your not alone. I was very intimidated at first in the surf with a fly rod. It can be really frustrating in the begining, in fact it still frustrates me. My advice would be to do it as much as possible. Set a goal for yourself to get your first surf caught fish this year. Put as much of your fishing time as you can in the surf it will happen. Start going on some nice calm summer mornings and fish the false dawn, there will still be fish in close and you can see what your doing. Keep at it.
