Ken, give the industry a break. Their business is to sell stuff. Mostly junk, I agree. But if people didn't buy junk, they wouldn't make it.
I must admit when it comes to fishing gear I don't know squat and I don't care. Looking at the the infinite variety of flies and fishing lures that catch fish, one has to admit that fish (especially bluefish) are not very choosy.

The most important thing when it comes to catching fish is knowing when and where to go fish. The gear in my opinion is not very important. The best fly rod in the world will not make me a good caster or even help me catch more fish.

From you I have learned a lot about where and when to go fishing. One spot in particular under certain circumstamces produces a fish ( small striper 18 to 24") on almost every cast no matter what you throw at them.

The fishing industry is like every other industry. They make what sells. Take the wine industry for example, an industry I know something about, cheap sweet, low quality wine outsells good quality wine ten or even fifty to one no matter the price. Who's at fault? Their mission is to make money not to educate.

On the other hand you have choosen to educate people about fishing - for free. The lessons sometimes are interestingly murky which only ads to the fun.

Thanks, and keep up the good work.
