Subject: Need to lear the surf.

Ok so I'm not that good fishing the surf because where I think the strike zone is rarely pays off for me so what's wrong? I usualy fish the white foamy water and have caught a few fish. I read an article that said you should fish just behind the wave before it breaks. Haven't tried that yet so are both areas correct?
