Well Nick..
I started this tank for one reason.
It is one of those things that everyone always said
was too difficult to do.
I figured I'd try it, and only then would I really know if that was true or not.
Believe me when I tell you this,
It is so much easier to maintain than all
of the countless freshwater set ups that I have had
over the years.
once in a while i bring a couple of buckets
of water home with me from fishing or whatever.
i switch out some water.
the filters are so cheap to buy online these days.
i have two on there.
a power head to give the fish some current
an undergravel filter plate ( like six bucks)
basically just to hold up the power head.
then an air pump and an air stone.
i got everything else from the estuary.
i do not like freshwater tanks much.
maybe I am just bored with them.
i have silversides in mine and shrimp and
mummis and all kinds of crabs and sheepshead minnows
( they are so territorial they bully every other
creature in the tank those two!)
and striped killi fish.
I put a little striper in there for a couple of days,
he ate every last living thing in that tank
then my son and I let him go.
we had to trap all new bait.
i think i have a couple of anchovies too,
but i thought they were silver sides.
they are all doing very well, i have not lost one
fish ( since we took jaws back to the river)
i feed them two different foods i bought online
one is all vegetable and one all seafood.
they go crazy for both.
it has been a great learning experience for me
and for my crew.
here are a few new pics
have no fears.
it is fun and it is easy.
