Since the Steelhead phenomena started in the great lakes lots of people have become familiar with "Drift fishing techniques with noodle rods and light tackle.
These techniques work really well for stripers and free you up from the methods that heavy tackle with thick lines and heavy weights require.
Many people have not been exposed to the incredible effectiveness of these light lines and sophisticated techniques. Tackle where a 1/4 oz sinker or pencil weight is all that is required to catch fish almost at will while the heavy tackle fellows remain almost fishless and truly mystified by your success. Tiny jigs, single hooked plastic and flies fished behind sliding weights and searching leaders are deadly in the salt.
Then there is bobber fishing with lures and flies and plastic suspended at controlled depth and when you become aware of the possibilities that this method offers a whole world of fish catching possibilities opens up to anyone who is willing to think outside of the box of big rods big reels heavy line and great big heavy lures. For tr the bait fisherman there is a single clam worm or silverside cast and finessed right down the current into the mouths of feeding fish and anyone can do it.
Welcome to the 21 century and the rise of the newest breakthroughs in suitable light line techniques for striper fishing. This light line door is wide open for the adventurours and creative angler. The best place to find out about hese teechniqes is by rading books about steelhead fishing with drift fishing techniques both with traditional rods and with noodle rods and with rods that combine both.
It is a lot of fun and can easily become an obsession.
