You have to edit the drift, that does not mean drifting the boat. In its simplest form it means imagining a grid on the water. Cast and drift your lure through each square and keep the lure in that grid line moving down with the current.

You have to adjust your weight and line so that you can maintain contact and let the lure swing down and then at the end swing across. That is a greased line swing.

Incrementally cast into the next grid line and do the same.

You will have to adjust your weight to fish it right. When you find the right "Slot, where the fish are holding you will be able to repeat the presentation.

Think of your kayak as a rock on the bank of a river and use it as a fixed point to edit the drift from.

That is the basic form that will work for you. It is fundamental for control of speed and depth in drift fishing. Use the lightest weight you can feel and use the thinnest line with the least stretch and a rod that is long enough to keep line off the water so that "Drag" does not deaden your feel or pul the lure downstream behind a loop of line being pulled down by the current.

The right balance of line diameter and weight is critical. The length of the rod is a big factor.
