"You will have to backreel" or use your thumb on a casting reel to keep the lure in the slot as it moves downstream or it will swing out of the slot and move across before you fish it through. If you cast thirty feet acroos the current to begin the drift; at the end of that drift you may have 60 to 100' of line out before you stop and cross the flow.
IT is not just cast and hold and swing. It is cast and drift and control of the swing. There is no reeling just control of the drift with the rod tip and keeping hte line off the water and using the pressure from the lure or weight and a reverse going away from you controlled drift rather than coming toward you retrieve.
This is the most consistantly deadly method to finesse fish in current.
