Went out this weekend for a bit up at Cranes Beach on the back side. About a half dozen guys fishing big sluggos, storm shads and clousers. Now what I'm going to tell you next is real.... I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't been there myself, so to speak.
I arrived with my little jig set up and my fly rod. Ask how's it been and the response is "Nothing. Fish aren't here today. Tide is all wrong. Not dropping enough yet." I toss out a little pumpkinseed grub on an 1/8 omce jig and bingo on the drop.... a little bass.....
This happens again and then again.
Guys are looking and watching.
Finally one of them asks what I'm using and I show him.
Offer him a grub and a jig. Tell him they're hitting it as it drifts and sinks in the current. Show him what I'm doing, etc... He starts catching fish, too....
Sluggo guys leave....
The clouser guys finally pack up and leave....
This new "friend" and I catch fish until I have to head back home.
