Try it both ways. There is a lot you can do with either method. The weight of the jig heads can be changed and that changes how fast the jig drops. Also not all types of jigs work equally well. You may not catch any fish on one and catch every drop on another. The trickis controlling the depth and teh speed of the jig as it drifts through a balance of back pressure and letting it drift by paying out line under control as it goes down stream. Driftiing with the boat makes it easier but sometimes doesn't give you the result you want becaue you are always motoring up and have a single drift per pass. That makes it harder to figure out what to use if the fish are not responding as it takes a lot of time between presentations.
