You can use 10 or smaller. The length is up to you.

Actually have you thought of a conventional?

You can use your thumb to let he jig swim and you won't have to click the bail.
Read the light line tactics for stationary drifts with a longer rod to pick the line up off the surface so it won't drag the jig up and out of the drift line..
The jig does not have to swing to work well.

Some times it works much better if you let it drift in the current line and just keep back pressure to maintain feel.
