How about every single fresh water bass tactic for both smallmouths and largmouths. Crank baits stick baits plastic worms grubs tube lures , spooks rapalas and on and on.

NOT salt water tactics but fresh water tactics and lures and tackle.

There is no deadlier strategy on the flats period.

Anything a sinking line can do - a six pound test high quality spinning rod with a tiny jig can do better more efficiently and quicker.

If you want to see something amazing just cast a long billed deep diving crank bait like a shad rap,
(deep diving is relative to depth - flats are not very deep and a shad rap will dig into the bottom)
and as you retrieve it it wil kick up mud and leave a trail - the bass will come and try to snatch it out of the mud and before you get it in, there will be a school of them chasing it along like a pack of dogs. Hesitate and let the plug stop for a half a heartbeat and set the hook.

They only hit when it pauses for a split second.
If you want to see something else - then put on a large pin minnow - colored like a sand eel and cast it and rip it in front of a bunch of fish. Set your drag on nothing and use your finger for on the side of the spool for drag. (tiny hooks) and have a ball.

Everything you try will work at one time or another and the mystery of the flats will become entertainment instead of difficult.

Then if it does gets difficult (negative fish) you can finesse grubs and worms and other types of plastic on tiny jigs and light lines and be stealthy as a bug and ...

The fly tackle you see on the flats and the tactics you see on the flats that people use with those fly rods will begin to seem very and crude and clumsy to you.

The thing to do then is to use these finesse tactics with a fly rod and gear down in rod and line weight and expand the types of flies and presentations you use.

Adrian I know you already know all this but many people have never been told and have no idea of the limitations they have unknowingly placed on their flats fishing experiences by trusting and letting other people (experts and know it all's) do their tactical flats thinking for them.
