Subject: "finessing" the regulars

Gave it a whirl tonight at my bridge. I got down there two other guys were fishing storms and bait off the bridge. Friendly enough but I got some funny looks when they saw my tackle. After all, I showed up in shorts and a t-shirt without a plug bag and bucket and a rod and reel that looked like I was planning on catching sunfish at the pond . That alone is unheard of around here so I couldn't really blame them. I positioned myself down on the bank and started to work. As I was playing around I was asked what I was using. I answered and got laughed at. I was told I should be using a shad with heavier gear. I thanked them for the advice but declined. Eventually my experimenting got around to a 1/32oz head with a cut down pumpkinseed curly tail about 1.5 inches. This combined with a crosscurrent swing with my finger on the line was the winner. The guys on the bridge didn’t talk to me much after that. I just heard them grumbling to each other about how the fish never show here anymore like they used to. Ahhh the good old days!
