Smoking the guy next to you can be fun sometimes. That's why Nick is rubbing my face in it a little bit. Well I succeed. He kicked my ass.... That night anyway.

But the fish were not only just interested in dead drifted plugs that night. Sometimes they are, but not this time. You were allowed to move them. In fact, a moving plug got a lot of attention. More than the dead drift if I remember correctly. The fact that I only hooked about 10% of the hits I received and Mr. Deaddrift got about 95% is a different problem, not one of the technique used to coax the fish into hitting that night.

Actually another interesting point is that the majority of my strikes had nothing to do with a dead drifted, cranked, or perfectly selected plug. The hits had everything to do with the splash of the plug hitting the water at the end of the cast and the inquisitive nature of bass. Splash... BANG!

I'm allowed to make excuses, but I also admit that it's possible Nick is just better than me. ;-P
