Subject: The pregnant pause... |

I know it's been discussed before here. Letting your plug sit, pause, twitch, etc. This AM was a classic example. I'd been fishing a new mackerel spook I'd made over a stretch of water that I love to fish this time of year. The plug glides beautifully, so I'd been bringing it in with these long slow sweeping glides to the left and right with no response. I then started bringing it in with some pauses and twitches between the glides. Trying to be erratic as possible. And that was the ticket. Several fish hit, all on the long pause, plug sitting dead in the water. Very pretty hits. Lots of jumping, too.
That brings up another "observation"/thought. Is it just me? Or do the bass seem to be going airborne more this year? I mean cartwheels, tail walking, salmon like leaps right out of the water after a long run, etc. Several of my friends up here seem to think so.
