Subject: Comorants

Last week while jigging for mackrel i ended up catching a lone pollack after about thirty minutes or so. I decided to move and look for mackrel schools. I did a little searching around and came upon a weed line with and some foamy slick water. Which is a good sign for mackrel. I started jigging and immediatly began hooking pollock aqain, which I place in my bait barrel. I noticed the commerant were working the area much close together with each other and they were diving sporadically and coming up with small bait fish.. Yesterday I went out to the same area and the comerants were acting much more relaxed but they were very far apart from each other. My guess is they were searching for bait and when they one hit the mother load they would signal the others. I have been fishing for about twenty years and never once thoght that they could be my most reliable fish finder. My ignorance led me to think that if terns aren't diving on busting fish there could possibly be any fish there. But now I think that noticing the behavior of any bird can signal fish at certain times. I can't wait to go out again to see what these birds are up to and what they will tell me. What are some other bird behaviors other than diving terns that signify fish activity that some of you have noticed?
