this winter while fishing i ran into to a guy who is getting his Phd in fisheries something...he was telling me about his research, doing underwater filming in PA on trout streams and how fast water riffles held much more trout (and bigger trout) than I'd ever believe. He went on to explain about fluid dynamics and the shape of a trout's body such, most of which was over my head.
