Subject: One spot, one shot, one fish.

I have really noticed in the past couple years how much bass do feed
and behave like trout.

I like to fish little places and have found that some good sized fish like
to feed in these areas. Places where small rivers and streams meet the
bay or ocean. Usually with a bridge and a light for a backdrop.

Just like with trout in a pool these fish are very wary and usually you
only get one shot at them.

Usually I can spot the fish from the bridge and plot my attack because I
know I got one chance to make it work. Even though I know these are
schooling fish she seems to always be alone. She will usually always
rise to the surface for my offering so presenting my plug or fly deep is
usually not an issue.

You got to put your offering on her nose because she never chases, but
just rises.

After that chance just like with a trout that tears up a pool all hope for
a second chance with that fish or even another is gone.

I have tried every trick in my bag of goodies to no avail to try and coax
another hit from that spot. Size, color, presentation, deep, shallow
surface, fast, slow, sit, stop and wait an hour, but there is nothing left
to do but gather my senses, pack my gear and move along to my next
little spot to coax another fish from out of her layer.

Well last night I had one of these wonderful experiences just down the
road from my apartment at a place that seems too small to be worth
fishing and guess what???

I pooched it... :(

But I know where she will be tonight, hehehe......
