Not that Ken needs any help but I have really found his advice on fishing the shore beach break to be the most productive for me when you are presented with the big lights and ton of bait scenario. At the ocean mist which seems to hold these tough fish on the lights quite a bit I have suckered some by almost sight casting to them within 6 inches of the beach in the shore break.

My theory is the bait is not quite as dense as it is a little further out and your fly pattern stands out a little better against the crowd. Also they need to react quicker in that environment and do not have as much time to scrutinize what you are throwing at them.

If you sit and watch the fish seem do have a pattern and you can ambush them as they make a run through the skinny beach break. Does not always work but it has taken fish for me when nothing else will...
