"fish do very well eating little tiny baitfish in off-colored water all day and night long" Welcome to Joppa Flats. Grab the jaw of a 36in fish. Keeping it in the water, you work the hook out. With the fish held vertically, shine your light down the body. Most of the season, you won't see it's tail. All season on calm dark nights you'll hear the fish crashing. Hour after hour. They seem to find the bait easily. Why they can't find my fly. Who knows? I do subscribe to the bulky fly at night approach. Not because they push water and send out vibrations. I first heard that nonsense 30 years ago regarding largemouths. I simply feel the fish can spot those flies easier. In the dark and/or dirty water. The limitted fly success I've had on Joppa has nearly all been on large somewhat bulky flies. Fairly heavily dressed flatwings and Popovics spreadflies. The bass always seem to get their feeding done. I think they exploit their environment. To them dirty water is probably another kind of opportuntity to take advantage of.
