There are no rocks on the south shore of Long Island (not including jetties which is a different animal). Montauk has some and the north fork has boulders in the water but nothing more than pebbles on the shore. When I was in RI last year I fished the rocks twice and loved it if not just for the novelty of it. One time was during the day and I was shown how not to loose any flies and watch the water move around rocks and follow the current out of the rocks back into the water. A stripping backet is unnecessary too. The second time was at night and that was somewhat intimidating since I never knew the area in the day. The fellow showing me around this irregular slippery rock area was wearing flip flops and seemed to know what he was doing. Rocky shore lines produce currents and fishing patterns that area quite different than my familiar all sand shoreline or sod bank estuary. I look forward to more rock fishing in the future but i will strap a pair of korkers to my flip flops until I have about 50 years of experience.
