Subject: Re: Weighted flies vs lead core

If the shot is placed on the leader immediately in front of the eye of the fly it will produce a jigging action with a short strip retrieve.

As you move the shot up the tippet away from the fly, the jigging action becomes less exagerated.

The size/weight of shot relative to the size of fly is also a factor. A single 'BB' will have a more pronounced effect in front of a 3inch Ray's fly than it will in front of a 10 inch razzle dazzle.

Just out of interest, using a grain scale, I checked the comparative weights of shot and popular clouser eyes. Results as follows - all weights are in grains:

Orvis Deep Water Eyes - large black - 14.9
Orvis upers Eyes standard/large - 18.8
Lead "BB" shot (Taylor Johnson) - 6.7
