This past year I have played around with both. Studded felt is okay for slippery slimy rocks but once you throw in some weed I have found they are useless. They heavy spikes bite through it better.
For dry rock I don't think there is anything better than a good rubber sole.
I like the cheaper lace up korkers. They have good studs that bite through the weed pretty well. They don't seem to be as bulky and have all the lengths of extra strap to trip over as the more expensive pair does. Plus they are easy to take off and looped onto my belt for places they are not needed.
50 bucks two or three times a year is well worth the extra piece of mind.
