Not all bead chain flies are Whistlers by the way. They may whistle but they are not, "Whistlers."
That is the name of a fly Dan Blanton tied to imitate lead head jigs that fellows were using in San Francisco bay many years ago who were catching bass much better than the fly guys were.

He tied it up to imitate the action of the Red and White jig they were using and it worked just as well or better. He wrote about the origin in a section of a book that was published back in the seventies I believe.
