Ken, the Clemson streamer with the molded eyes, shown, is 7" long and I tie them as long as 9". The molded eye version sinks a little bit faster than the other and might be worth trying. My personal experience is that this fly works consistently, my best success has been when casting from a boat with a sink tip. Substitute dark green kinky fiber, or a bunch of green crystal flash, for the peacock herl and you have a 100% synthetic fly.

The fly also casts really well because the fibers shed all of their water on the first back cast. You could make the fly into a jig by substiting big chromed or brass eyes or adding a big cone head but I'd put on a hard hat before trying to cast that beast.
